Hello and welcome to ABP’s live coverage of the 4th Test between India and Australia. Steve Smith, Australia’s stand-in skipper won the toss on day 1 and without any delay opted to bat first on a batting-friendly wicket. Australia scored a decent 255/4 at Ahmedabad, with Usman Khwaja scoring a brilliant century. After batting the entire day, he returned to the changing room unbeaten on 104.
Cameron Green also contributed in the middle after playing an unbeaten knock of 49 off 64 deliveries and helped the visitors add 106 runs in the final session despite losing the two early wickets.
Australia just lost two wickets in the first session but then they were wicketless between lunch to tea. India however made a comeback after tea and scalped the wickets of Smith and Peter Handscomb in quick intervals. Speedster Mohammed Shami starred for India as he took 2 for 65. Ravichandran Ashwin (1 for 57) and Ravindra Jadeja (1 for 49) were the other troublemakers for the Indians on the first day.
Earlier, before the Test match started, both the prime ministers from India and Australia gave a special Test cap to India and Australia’s skippers. This is the Aussie PM’s first official visit to the country. The Indian team are leading the ongoing series by 2-1. But in order to secure a spot in the WTC final, they need to win this Test match. The championship clash will be played in London from June 7 onwards.
