Shatrughan Sinha Hits Out At PM Modi Over Rahul Gandhi’s Disqualification

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Shatrughan Sinha made a direct jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, “…I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi. What they did exemplifies ‘Vinash Kale Viprit Buddhi.’ However, it will not only protect democracy but will also help Rahul Gandhi and the opposition in gaining an advantage of 100+ seats…,” the actor-turned-politician made the remark in response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent disqualification from the Lok Sabha, news agency ANI reported on Sunday.

The Congress held a day-long ‘Satyagraha’ in support of Rahul Gandhi in front of Gandhi statues in all states and district headquarters on Sunday to protest his disqualification from the Lok Sabha.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and senior leaders KC Venugopal, P Chidambaram, and Salman Khurshid were among those taking part in the Rajghat Satyagraha.

To protest the disqualification, the party has announced plans for a day-long satyagraha in front of Mahatma Gandhi statues in all states and district headquarters.

Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha on Friday, a day after a court in Surat, Gujarat, convicted him in a defamation case in 2019. Gandhi (52), a four-time MP, will be barred from running for office for the next eight years unless the conviction is overturned by a higher court.

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor questioned whether it was good for the country’s democracy when the main opposition leader was barred from speaking in Parliament.

‘This Move Will Put More Steel In Congress’: P Chidambaram

Former finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said on Sunday that the disqualification of his party’s leader, Rahul Gandhi, from the Lok Sabha, would strengthen the Congress and help its prospects in next year’s general election.

Chidambaram described the political landscape as an “undeclared emergency,” saying the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has made the Congress its “prime target,” wishing for its demise in order to more easily manage regional parties, PTI reported.
