Post-Budget Webinar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the artisans in the country are a symbol of Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the true sense. Referring to them as Vishwakarmas, the PM said that the Vishwakarmas of today can become entrepreneurs of tomorrow while addressing a post-Budget webinar on PM Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman (PM VIKAS). The Prime Minister was addressing the importance of small artisans in the production of local crafts in the country.
The PM said, “After the announcement of PM Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman, there were extensive discussions, newspapers and economic experts took note of it. The mere announcement has become a centre of attraction.”
Equating the artisans with Lord Vishwakarma, PM Modi said, “Lord Vishwakarma is considered the ultimate creator, and the greatest architect. In his idols, he is seen holding various tools. In our society, those who create something with their own hands with the help of tools, have a rich tradition.”

He said, “Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana aimed at hand-holding artisans and people associated with small businesses” adding that “we need to work in mission mode to help artisans living in remote areas”.
PM Modi said that even after independence, artisans never received the intervention they needed from the government. “As a result, today most people in this unorganised sector do odd jobs for livelihood. Many are abandoning their ancestral profession. They’re running out of capability to mould themselves as per today’s needs,” he added.

The PM said that we can’t leave the artisans on their own. He added, “This is a section that has protected its craft through traditional methods for centuries, a section that has made its identity through its extraordinary skill and unique creation. They’re the symbols of true sense of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”
